Randomly picked this book up at the Yonkers Barnes & Nobel during a week long stint of housesitting my childhood home (just like Intimations) Never read anything by Plath before. I really enjoyed the first 100 pages and apparently only thought to take notes for the first 25 pages. This book is very dark but has a satisfying ending.
“I thought it must be the worst thing in the world. New York was bad enough.” (p. 1)
“I was supposed to be having the time of my life.” (p. 2)
“I guess I should have been excited the way most of the other girls were, but I couldn’t get myself to react.” (p.3 )
“My dream was someday ordering a drink and finding out it tasted wonderful.” (p. 10)
“I felt like a hole in the ground.” (p. 16)
“Whenever I’m sad I’m going to die, or so nervous I can’t sleep, or in love with somebody I won’t be seeing for a week, I slump down just so far and then I say: ‘I’ll go take a hot bath.’” (p.19)
“I opened the door and blinked out into the the bright hall. I had the impression it wasn’t night and it wasn’t day, but some lurid third interval that had suddenly slipped between them and would never end.” (p. 21)
“Almost everybody I met in New York was trying to reduce.” (p. 25)
